چکیده
Effect of Mean Stress on Low-Cycle Fatigue Strength of a Medium Carbon Steel S45C True Stress-Controlled Cyclingby Tatsuo ENDO*, Shoji HARADA*, Yoshihiro FUKUSHIMA* and Haruo SAKAMOTO** Nominal stress-controlled low-cycle fatigue life under imposed mean stress is affected by elongation or contraction due to cyclic stress-induced creep. Therefore, the effect of mean stress was examined by a microcomputer-assisted t sting device which provides true stress controlled loading. Through investigation of a medium carbon steel (S45C), the following results, were obtained: (1) Cyclic plastic strain amplitude at the steady cyclic stress-strain state decreased with an increase of the imposed tensile mean stress. (2) The cyclic stress-induced creep proceeded so far as the mean stress was imposed. The increase in axial cyclic creep strain per cycle was proportional to the nth power of the maximum cyclic stress. (3) For the same cyclic stress amplitude, the application of tensile or compressive mean stress prolonged the fatigue life as compared with the fully reversed stressing. (4) A modified Manson-Coffin relation including such two parameters as the cyclic stress amplitude and the mean stress was proposed for evaluating the fatigue strength under cyclic stress-induced creep condition. キ ー ・ワ ー ド:低 サ イ クル 疲 労,平 均 応 力,真 応 力,サ イ ク リ ッ ク ・ク リー プ

The effect of ferrite grain size on the fatigue and tensile properties of dual phase steels with a 0.25 volume fraction of martensite (Vm) under different heat treatments was investigated. The heat treatments were homogenized at 1200 oC along with several subsequent normalizations at 910 oC, resulting in different microstructures and mechanical properties. After heat treatment, the obtained ste...

متن کاملAssessment of different methods for fatigue life prediction of steel in rotating bending and axial loading
Generally, fatigue failure in an element happens at the notch on a surface where the stress level rises because of the stress concentration effect. The present paper investigates the effect of a notch on the fatigue life of the HSLA100 (high strength low alloy) steel which is widely applicable in the marine industry. Tensile test was conducted on specimens and mechanical properties were obtain...
